WeWork Companies, Inc., a New York based company, who provides rented office space and sublets largely to startup companies, is striving to make itself a hub for new business formation by bringing together entrepreneurs who share space and office services. GSC Architects was commissioned as Architect of Record for their newest space at 600 Congress Avenue. A 1st floor presence, the 14th floor and a future stair knockout for the 15th floor encompassed WeWork’s vision for Austin. Using the City of Austin’s adopted code, 2012 IBC with Amendments, GSC conducted a detailed and thorough assessment of life safety, egress and ADA components. Upgrades included full demolition plans and construction documents for a complete renovation of the chosen spaces. GSC worked diligently with One American Center’s building management team, routing the renovations through the City of Austin efficiently to meet an aggressive construction schedule.
